"Think global, act local"

Climate Change

This affects all of us. Listed below are some the problems currently facing our planet. We have also highlighted some things that can be done by all of us to limit the effects of global warming. There is also a link to show what we are doing at St. Joseph's for recycling and energy efficiency.

  • The glaciers are melting. The ice caps are getting smaller. Animals and plants are responding to an earlier spring.
  • Sea levels are rising and are forecast to rise by another 88cm by 2100.
  • Costs of global warming could double each year in the next ten years.

  • Rising temperatures will cause polar ice caps to melt further.
  • Even more flooding, rainstorms, droughts and famine will occur

What can we do to help the environment?

Below are some suggestions.

Use energy saving lightbulbs

Don't leave your TV or PC on standby

Turn off the lights when you leave a room

Take a shower rather than a bath

Use a microwave when cooking small amounts of food

Turn the thermostat down by a couple of degrees for the cental heating

Only fill the kettle with the required amount of water

Only put the dishwasher on when it is full

Recycle products like paper, plastic and glass

Only use the car for essential journeys
